Scooter is a Papillion/Sheltie mix who was found by the
roadside near Bowling Green, KY where he had been
dumped. For three days he waited beside a mailbox
waiting for his owner to come back, and each time a
car drove by, he would lift his head expectantly, only to
sink back into the grass and hide when no one
stopped.

Finally a neighbor realized the dog had been
abandoned and called the local animal shelter. The
shelter was full and could not care for Scooter, so he
was shipped off to H.E.A.R.T., a foster organization in
Binghamton, NY.
It was while he was there that his new "mom" found him on PetFinder.com and instantly fell in love with
him. There was only one problem--Scooter was in New York state and she was in Colorado. It took seven
cross-country volunteer pet transporters to get him to her, and he even spent four days in an
18-wheeler bound from Texas to California cooped up with three pit bulls and another dog.

Scooter was pretty stressed when he reached his new home, but he soon settled in and began to
respond to all the love and attention being showered on him. He also bonded closely with the famliy's
other dog and they became fast fiends. Then disaster struck -- his beloved canine companion became
sick and died, leaving both Scooter and his mom devastated over the loss. Contributing even more to
the chaos at the time was the fact that the family was in the process of packing and moving across
country to another state.  Not surprising, all this was just too much for Scooter to take, and he began
reacting badly. He started refusing to go outside to do his business and had to be carried in or out.
Even worse, he refused to get in or out of a car, and had to be either coerced with treats or forced.
Naturally his mom was worried about how she was going to get a dog who refused to get in or out of a
car across country to his new home. She asked if I could help and I promised to give it my very best
effort.

Using surrogate tapping, Scooter's mom and I tapped and tapped about all the emotions we were sure
he was feeling. We reassured him over and over, saying such things as "Even though I am so afraid I am
being left again, I know I am part of the family and am going with them to our new home.... I am really
good dog...I didn't deserve what happened to me....  my family loves me....I know I am safe, I will always
be loved, I will  never be hungry again,....." As we tapped there was a noticeable difference in the dog's
behavior. He was quite anxious when we began tapping. He initially ran when he saw me, and had been
panting and pacing; he kept hiding behind packing boxes and peeking out from behind them. Then as
we tapped, he became calmer. Finally he slinked over to lay down at his mom's feet. He kept looking at
me furtively, then gradually his eyes drooped and he appeared to fall asleep. Then he let out this huge
sigh and we could just see his whole body relaxing.  When we were finished, something very amazing
and touching happened. Scooter got to his feet, came over to me, put his head on my knee and just
looked up at me with his beautiful soulful eyes. He even let me stroke his head and soft ears.

The story does not end there. Two days later Scooter's mom called and reported that he was getting in
and out of the car without being coaxed, and all his nervous behaviors seemed to have stopped. The
day she left to drive cross country she stopped by my office, and there was Scooter, sitting in the back
seat looking very excited and happy. After they arrived, she sent me an e-mail saying that he had done
remarkably well on the long trip and was settling in comfortably at their new home. Then a year went by,
and since I had not heard anything about Scooter for a while, I wrote and asked his mom how he was
doing. This is her reply:

"Scooter is still doing amazingly well. Oh, he has his days when he seems to take a step backwards, but he
has progressively gotten better since our tapping session. He is even braver when meeting other dogs and
people on our walks in our community. He will now walk out of sight of the house without having a problem.
However, when he's done walking, he'll sit down in the middle of the street or sidewalk and won't move until I
head back in the direction of the house!  He is now always willing to get into the car and go for rides, which
he never wanted to do before. He has become more of an explorer. He is still very vigilant and an excellent
watch dog but has learned to relax. Be sure to share his story - he is a testimony to your work."
For far too long people have considered animals to be dumb creatures who do not think or
experience emotion. Modern research has proven otherwise, and now we know that animals
"think" and experience much of the same emotions as humans. We already knew that
without any research--just ask any pet owner if their pet has ever communicated with them
or shown emotions such as embarrassment, fear, sadness or joy. Just like humans, animals
experience traumatic events that can impact their nervous systems and become stuck,
causing physical pain and/or mental suffering. The good news is that, just like humans,
animals can be helped with energy healing.

Scooter's Story
This is my own 18-year old kitty Leona who still loves to
remove the bows and hide among the packages under our
Christmas tree every year. She is also quite fond of
scooting in and out of paper bags. She has been our
delightful companion for many years. Although today she is
a relaxed and loving cat, it was not always so.

Leona was originally purchased at a pet shop at a very
young age. When she was three months old she was
rescued by my daughter from a man who had recently
broken up with his girlfriend and didn't want to be
bothered with the tiny kitten that she left behind. Although
we think Leona  was fed, little or no attention was paid to
her except to yell or kick at her. When she came to live
with us she was very traumatized and frightened and
wouldn't let anyone near her. If you tried to pick her up she
became one little ball of teeth and claws. It took her more
than a year to trust us--and then one day she simply
jumped into my husband's lap and that was that.
Leona, the Less Than
Lion Hearte

Although she has never had a bad day in her life since she came to live with us, she is still quite timid
in some respects, and on occasion, exhibits signs of abandoned pet syndrome. For years we could
drive away from her in the car and she would be okay, but if we left the house on foot to take a walk,
she would run frantically after us crying pitifully. Although she is much better now, we still feel her
distress when we leave her, and always make arrangements for friends to come and visit her as often
as possible when we are gone. They spoil her terribly, and when she hears them coming, she is
always waiting at the door to see what they have brought her. Her favorite "mom and dad are away"
treats are bacon and licking the ice cream left in the lid of a container of Ben and Jerry's vanilla ice
cream. We don't give her these things, so I am sure on some level she is glad when we leave just so
she can have her goodies.

As long as I can remember Leona has had eye problems and a discharge running from her eyes that
stained her lovely  white fur. After becoming trained with The Emotion Code, which is highly effective
for animals, I decided to see if I could do anything about this constant eye drainage. Not surprisingly I
found and released all sorts of negative emotions that had become trapped in her body between the
ages of birth and six months, to include panic, despair, grief and hopelessness. These were all
contributing to  her eye problems, and I now think that all these years her eyes had been "crying."
After I released these emotions I watched her closely for a couple of days, and to all our amazement
her eyes dried up and are now perfectly clear. It has been some time now and the discharge has not
come back.  She is also having a much easier time jumping up on furniture with her arthritic back legs.
There is a remarkable difference, and knowing that I have helped my beloved pet is truly a joy for me.
